World Eating Disorders Day on June 2! It’s time to #BREAKStigma
Greetings all! We are nearing June 2, the third annual World Eating Disorders Day!
This year we aim to #BreakStigma by talking about eating disorders at every turn, to help break down the walls of silence around eating disorders in the community, the family, amongst policy makers, educators and health care providers. It is wonderful to hear the lived experiences of brave people who have spoken out for change this year on our blog.
Research on genetic linkages, the biologic basis of eating disorders and evidence-based treatment has further torn down walls of stigma. Eating disorders are being seen and treated as the brain disorders they are, and effective treatment is increasingly available. Please intervene early, learn more HERE!
Another way to break stigma is to foster patient-carer-professional partnerships! Recently the Academy for Eating Disorders released the World Eating Disorders Health Care Rights!. Please share this with your local provider and if you are a professional, take the action to post and adhere to these rights.
Join us on June 2 on social media, on our website, or at a local event! See the Participating Organizations here! Click here to Take the Pledge against Stigma! Take the PLEDGE here.
This year, we are also adopting the #LilacRibbon and using this to symbolize those we have lost, those in need of support and treatment and all the families, friends and professionals every day working for justice and access. THANK you.
